Since last November my nearest and dearest have been hearing me talk a lot about this one thing non-stop. And what is this one thing I’ve been talking about for the past 270-odd days? It’s a little something called Get Hitched, Give Hope. It’s a big fun cocktail party for brides-to-be and their friends where they can get things they need for their wedding while raising money for a great cause. It’s happening on October 23rd, 2008, and and you should buy yourself a ticket right this minute.
We’re hoping to raise a bunch of money for Brides Against Breast Cancer/Making Memories, an organization that grants wishes to women who have metastatic breast cancer, giving them a chance to do something like take a trip with their family at a time when money is tight and life is incredibly difficult. If you’re a bride, you’ve probably heard of this group because of the new-and-used gown sales they hold to raise money. It’s a great organization and you can learn about women whose wishes they’ve granted right here.
So how are we going to raise money for this awesome group? By getting a bunch of incredible local wedding vendors to donate amazing stuff, and then having a silent auction where the proceeds go to Brides Against Breast Cancer. So thirty local vendors—DJs, florists, wedding coordinators, invitation makers, jewelry designers, photographers, and so on—are all going to donate services that you need for your wedding. You’ll have the chance to snap up incredible deals, knowing that the money you spend is going to a good cause.
On top of that, it’s going to be such a fun night. The Arctic Club Hotel (yes, that’s the one downtown with the walruses carved into the facade) has donated their gorgeous Dome Room and will be doing all the catering for the party, and Chateau Ste. Michelle is donating wine. It’s a chance to get dressed up, put on your party shoes, bring all your bridesmaids, sip a few drinks, snack on appetizers, buy stuff you need for your wedding, and feel great that you’re doing it all for a good cause. And if you are a wedding vendor, you can come too! We’re having a vendor hour at the beginning of the party so you won’t be left out.
I’m so excited about this event, and so impressed by the talents of the five women who are putting this together with me: Barbie Hull, Laurel McConnell, Michelle Loretta, Kelly Simants, and Michelle Engvall. Tickets start at $15, so buy yours right now or just plain old donate to the cause. I can’t wait to see you on October 23rd!
